Free Italian Language Lessons

The free lessons available from this paid subscription-based website provide some basics for those interested in learning Italian.

With three levels offered, visitors can learn Italian for: 

  • parts of speech
  • clothes
  • at the movies
  • sickness
  • the family
  • household items and food
  • weather
  • and much more

Because this website is produced in Florence, Italy, by teachers of Italian, some of the information is presented in Italian only and some lessons may not have an English translation. But don’t let that deter you from checking out the lessons. Lessons include audios and many have images to assist in identifying the words. Most lessons include a presentation of the material and a few interactive practice activities.

This website can be used to introduce a study of the Italian language or provide additional practice for others who are currently studying the language.

This website offers free, sample math games (from its commercially available game-based learning system) that challenge and entertain students.

You can try snippets of the games for free, or register as a teacher/principal of your school to play the games in their entirety. Registration is free without obligation to purchase. Should you decide to purchase a subscription to the program, you’ll be able to access additional tools to save games, track your student’s progress, etc.

When you get to the site, scroll down to locate a menu of sample games designed to engage students such as: 

  • A Tangled Web – angle puzzles
  • Bubble Function – arithmetic, exponents and scientific notation
  • Deepest Ocean – inequalities
  • Flower Power – decimals, fractions and percents
  • Graphs of the Galaxy – linear equations
  • Ice Ice Maybe – estimation
  • and more!

Click on any one to read the instructions and begin the game. Things move quickly – so be prepared to be on your toes!

Free Science & Tech Videos & Activities!

This commercial website provides some free science videos with printable lessons and activities that help make a connection between what students study (math and science) and how scientists, engineers, explorers and visionaries use it to shape the future of the real world.

The idea is to inspire kids to consider careers in the science and technology industries. Each week the website features a selection of new movies that are available for free for two weeks. There are some movies that are available anytime. When you get to the website you’ll see the currently featured videos. To find other free videos, look under “Real World Movies” on the menu and click on the various topics that include: 

  • Agriculture
  • Animals
  • Architecture
  • Earth Science
  • Environmental
  • Science & Technology
  • Space Science
  • Transportation
  • And more!

When you click on a topic, a new page opens with a menu of movies in that category. The free movies will say, “Now Playing.” There are about 15-20 free movies available on the site at any given time and all include downloadable/printable activities to enhance learning. The movies are about 2-6 minutes in length. The movies that are NOT free will say, “Available by Subscription.” You can also purchase DVDs that contain the most popular movies. But you don’t have to purchase a thing to access the free videos.

Be sure to check out the “Educator Resources” as well. This is a great way to introduce kids to various fields of science and technology and see how they are applied in the real world.

Today’s United Kingdom-based website offers a tremendous amount of FREE resources for learning (interspersed with occasional plugs to purchase software programs or membership to the site).

The site can be navigated in several ways. Use the blue, horizontal menu across the top to access free lessons, games, and quizzes based on time period, or use the grade-range menu to sort the activities according to the student’s age. You can also click on any topic of interest that is featured on the landing page. Among the resources you will find: 

  • Links – Get over 1,000 links to history websites sorted first by the age- or grade-range they are suited for, and then divided into topic categories such as Aztecs, Magna Carta, Spanish Armada, Industrial Revolution, etc.
  • Lessons – These are illustrated lessons with short text, hyperlinked vocabulary/definitions, and captivating tone, yet the material is not at all frivolous. You can learn a lot here!
  • Resources – downloadable .pdf worksheets and PowerPoint presentations. This is a LARGE collection, well organized by age and topic, annotated, and well done. Many of these were created by teachers. Definitely worth a look!
  • Interactivities – Here are opportunities to show what you know. Fill in online diagrams, write an essay, or make a cool storyboard with your choice of several colorful backgrounds and characters to complement your text!
  • Games – The rest of this site is great, but it’s ok to admit that this game section is the REALLY fun part! Here you will find such games as Penalty Shootout, Make Your Teacher Walk the Plank, One- or Two-Player HoopShoot, Beat da’ Bomb, and more! All of these exciting and highly motivational games have been customized by teachers and students, so there is an amazing collection of history questions you can choose from in order to beat these games!
  • Quizzes – Here you can find a variety of quiz types – matching, multiple choice, flash cards, word searches, and more – and again, an extensive list of topics.
  • Teachers – You can create your own content or questions for most of the interactivities, lessons, quizzes, worksheets, presentations, and other items found on this site! You can also access a vast collection of teacher helps, hints, and much more! Or go see what bits of wisdom and experience you can glean from history teachers in the forum!

Although you may need to dig around to locate the free resources, it is well worth the search. You could also opt to purchase a subscription to the website to access all the available information. You will definitely want to bookmark this incredible page and return often!

Free Virtual Homeschool Science Class & More

This website offers a FREE, live Science Tele-Class on Thursday, March 8, 2018 where you can “spark together electric motors, wire up circuits and build your own robot from junk!” 

The step-by-step class is taught by former NASA rocket scientist, Aurora Lipper.
 
When you get to the site you must enter your email address to register for the class. This free class is designed to be a sample of the full “Supercharged Science” series that you can purchase at the website. But you don’t have to purchase a thing to enjoy the Science Teleclass on March 8. You’ll then receive an email with the details on the time of the call and an explanation of how the Teleclass works along with a list of materials you’ll need for the class.
 
Bonus:  If you go the home page you can learn how to get a free Homeschool Science Guide with over 30 experiments plus a subscription to The Science Newsletter, and access to Science Fair project resources.

Free Music Based Spanish Lessons

Kids can learn basic Spanish and vocabulary structure with the free samples at this commercial website.

While this is a subscription website, there is a load of free content for visitors to use. It appears that this site is geared towards elementary-aged students, but the content can most certainly benefit the older student. When arriving at the website scroll down a bit to review the icons for: 

  • Videos
  • Games
  • Songs
  • Worksheets
  • Picture dictionaries

After your selection has been made browse through the page to locate available free content. For example, when we browsed the videos page we found free videos to learn: 

  • Greetings/Daily Routines
  • Animals
  • Colors and Numbers
  • Parts of the Body
  • Family Members
  • Seasons
  • Rooms of the House

Games included learning colors, numbers, parts of the body, rooms of the house. There were loads of free songs with downloadable lyrics and images. Worksheet options included numbers and colors, animals, rooms of the house, transportation, parts of the body and more. And don’t leave this site without checking out their blog for loads of teaching ideas.


The colorful images, witty songs and music, and fun games will make this site a great supplement to any Spanish language program.
