Grades 2-8, with parental supervision
Gather the kids around the computer to embark on a tour of a virtual castle! The castle at this site is animated, but it is historically accurate and based upon Nottingham Castle as it existed in 1480.
When you get to the site, click on the drawbridge to enter. A new page opens showing a map of the castle. Click on the banner, “Kids’ Castle” to read the key to the “shield symbols”. Then, as you tour each section of the castle by clicking on a section of the map, you will see those shields pop up offering activities, more information, games, clues to puzzles and other interesting ways to further your learning about castles, and the lives of the people who lived in and around them.
This tour provides a great unit study all by itself, and a terrific way to enhance knowledge about heraldry, knights, and more.
