Put on your thinking caps! This incredible website provides free animated maps showing historical time lines in a period of about 90 seconds! They are sure to spark interest in historical events and lots of conversation.

When you get to the site, you’ll see some featured maps. For example, one of the most popular maps at the site is called “Imperial History of the Middle East” that presents an animation of who has controlled the Middle East over the course of 5,000 years of world history. 

Click on the featured maps to dive right in, or click on “Maps” at the top to find a menu of various maps presented on the site including: 

  • March of Democracy
  • History of Religion
  • Leadership and War
  • Pressure Vault
  • Signs of Occupation

When you are done there, be sure to click on “Library” at the bottom to find a selection of links to multimedia war maps on the Net. Includes topics such as: 

  • The Western Front, 1914 – 1918
  • The Darfur Tragedy
  • Global Migration – Map depicts flow of migrants and money worldwide

Although the subject matter (war) is grim, the historical perspective presented through these dynamic maps is sure to spark thought and discussion.
