Hi! It’s Wednesday, November 28, 2012 and time for Language Arts at ClickSchooling!

I thought it would be fun to play some games that teach the origin of words – which can be very helpful when it comes to honing spelling and vocabulary skills.

Recommended Websites:

See Below

Age Range: Varies (with parental supervision)

Funbrain: Rooting Out Words – Uncover the meaning of root words with this fun game for kids. Levels: easy, medium, and hard.

QUIA: Greek & Latin Root Words Match Game – Like the game “Concentration” just match the root word with its meaning.

Etymologic: The Toughest Word Game on the Web – In this challenging etymology game for advanced wordsmiths, you’ll be presented with 10 randomly selected etymology (word origin) puzzles to solve. Choose the correct answer to score a point for that question. As explained at the website, “Beware! The false answers will often also seem quite plausible, and some of the true answers are hard to believe!” This is a goodie for those preparing for SAT exams!

And of course, I couldn’t forget this popular word game that we’ve featured on ClickSchooling previously…

Free Rice: Define Words and Feed the Hungry! – At this website, you can take a multiple choice quiz to define words and feed the hungry at the same time! It doesn’t cost a thing to learn vocabulary and help end world hunger!
