Hi!  It’s Wednesday, February 9th, 2010 and time for Language Arts at ClickSchooling!

Recommended Website:
PBS: Interactive Language Arts Games

Age Range: 4-10 (Grades PreK-5, non-readers will need assistance)

PBS offers a collection of interactive, fun Language Arts games that enhance learning. The activities are themed around PBS shows such as Between The Lions, Curious George, Super Why, Sesame Street, and Arthur.

When you get to the site you’ll see a menu of games that teach about topics such as:

  • Adjectives
  • Phonics
  • Reading
  • Rhymes
  • Spelling
  • Synonyms
  • Vocabulary

Click on any one and a new page opens where the game begins. Be sure to turn on your speakers to hear the narrations and sound effects. When you’re through with the Language Arts games, you may also enjoy the Math, Arts, and Social Sciences games.  The nice thing about this PBS site, is that all of the games are age-appropriate, vetted by educators, and there isn’t any advertising.

If you’re children enjoy those games, they may also enjoy:

All About Adjectives – This very brief interactive game helps kids learn about adjectives through a few simple exercises. Non-readers will need assistance.

If your children want to know more about adjectives try visiting this website for some great OFFLINE ideas:

Adjectives: A Unit Study for Valentine’s Day – This ad-supported site offers a variety of engaging activities that you can do at home (offline) on Valentine’s Day (or any day) to help your children learn about adjectives. Because this site is ad-supported, parents, as always, should preview the site and supervise use.
