Hi!  It’s Wednesday, February 2, 2011 and time for Language Arts at ClickSchooling!

Recommended Website:
Grammar Bytes

Age Range: 9 and up (about grades 4+)

This clever site adds much needed humor to the area of grammar studies with a choice of free interactive or printable grammar exercises along with some YouTube grammar lessons.

You’ll enjoy silly rewards in the form of “virtual prizes” like a balloon bouquet for correct answers, and kooky chastisements for incorrect answers such as a picture of a hippopotamus with this warning:

“Yikes! Pain and agony are coming! Because you have made the wrong decision, this hippopotamus gets to pick its teeth with your leg bone.”

When you get to the site you will see a menu that includes a link to definitions of common grammar terms, a link to downloadable and printable handouts, and a link to “Exercises.”  Click on “Exercises” to access the wacky learning activities that provide practice in understanding the following areas of grammar usage:

  • Comma Splices & Fused Sentences
  • Sentence Fragments
  • Irregular Verbs
  • Parallel Structure
  • Commas
  • Pronoun Agreement
  • Pronoun Case
  • Pronoun Reference
  • Subject-Verb Agreement
  • Word Choice

Click on any one and the fun begins. You have the option to learn about or review grammar usage before you begin the exercises. Or, you can jump right in and if you pick an incorrect answer – you can click on an explanation to help you self-correct. There are also printable handouts that correspond to each lesson.

NOTE: This is an ad-supported website with randomly generated ads that if clicked on, will lead to outside websites that I have NOT reviewed. PARENTS, AS ALWAYS, SHOULD PREVIEW THE SITE AND SUPERVISE USE.
