Hi!  It’s Wednesday, October 20, 2010 and time for Language Arts at ClickSchooling!

Recommended Website:
RIF: Literacy Resources – Activities

Age Range: 2-15 (with parental guidance)

Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is the largest children’s non-profit reading organization in the world. Their goal is to motivate children and their families to read by providing free cross-curricular resources and activities that encourage reading.

When you get to the site you’ll see an introduction that explains the many activities available. Below it you can access free “Monthly Activity Calendars” for ages birth-5 and 6-15. These calendars are available in both English and Spanish and offer daily suggestions that encourage reading. They can be printed out and posted on the wall or fridge.

You’ll also see “Story Samplers” that are free activity e-books that you can download and print to use offline.

Then, explore the menu that includes:

  • Alphabet Learning
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Drama
  • Games
  • History
  • Math
  • Poetry
  • Seasonal Activities
  • Storytelling
  • Vocabulary Building
  • Writing
  • And Much More!

Click on any one and a new page opens with a selection of activities in English and/or Spanish.  (The appropriate age range is indicated next to the activity.)  Click on the activity and a new page opens with a materials list and instructions on how to conduct the activity. In some cases you’ll find free downloadable activity books that you can print out and use offline too.

You’ll also find that the menu gives you access to age-appropriate booklists, articles on every aspect of reading, downloadable brochures, and multicultural resources.

There is a great deal of content at this site so bookmark it to return again.
