Hi!  It’s Saturday, May 8, 2010 and time for Music at ClickSchooling!

Recommended Website:
Folk of the Wood: Acoustic Music Lessons

Age Range: All (Youngsters and non-readers will need adult assistance.)

This commercial website offers free, acoustic music lesson tutorials for the following instruments:

  • Acoustic Guitar for 6 & 12-string instruments (with crosspicking and open G tuning lessons)
  • Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer
  • Banjo for 5, 6, & 12-string instruments
  • Bouzouki
  • Fiddle
  • Mandola
  • Mandolin (including crosspicking and fingerstyle lessons)
  • Squareneck Dobro Lessons
  • Tenor Guitar (with C-G-D-A tuning lessons)
  • Violin

When you get to the site you’ll see an introduction that includes a link to the  “Lessons Table of Contents.”  Click on that to access a list of the instrument lessons that are available. Click on an instrument and a new page opens with a menu of lessons. The lessons are delivered in a variety of ways that include the use of text, photographs, illustrations, sheet music, and more.

The lessons vary depending on the instrument selected. You’ll learn basics such as how to hold the instrument properly, how to strum or pick the instrument, how to tune it, how to read music, how to read and play music scales, how to play chord progressions, and how to play songs from beginning to advanced levels.

The idea here, aside from presenting some great tutorial lessons, is to entice you to purchase their instructional DVDs and books. But you don’t have to purchase a thing to enjoy this site for acoustic instrument enthusiasts that offers “free online lessons, an extensive FAQ database, online video samplers and even free online support via e-mail.”
