ClickScholar Chris suggested this FANTASTIC Virtual Field Trip to a flour mill sponsored by the North American Miller’s Association.

When you get to the site, just click on the YouTube screen to take a 10-minute video field trip to see how wheat is grown, harvested, and made into flour – and see what baked goods the flour makes too!

As Chris wrote, this site also offers:

  • Free multi-page educational booklets with kid-friendly, wheat-themed learning activities that can be integrated into science, math, language arts, social studies and other curriculum.
  • Printable colored diagram showing the parts of the wheat kernel!
  • Links to other free resources. Look for the icon menu on the left sidebar. Be sure to click on the “Home Baking Association” icon to access fairly formal baking lessons (great for middle and high schoolers) and tons of recipes.
  • A free subscription to agMag that provides production, agronomic, processing, consumption and career information for ages 8-10.

This is a perfect learning resource at this time of year – because you can use it to turn holiday baking into fun learning opportunities that the whole family will enjoy!
