HWT: National Handwriting Day

Age Range: 5-9 (Grades K-4)

Celebrate National Handwriting Day with “Mail to the Chief!” At this website you can find out how your child can have their handwritten letter of advice delivered to new President Barack Obama on January 23, 2009. This is a great opportunity to spark children’s enthusiasm for written communication and civic participation.

The deadline for submission is December 15th.

National Handwriting Day is sponsored by Handwriting Without Tears, the handwriting curriculum company that has been rave-reviewed by homeschoolers. You don’t have to purchase a thing to participate in this free event.

Simply visit the website to get the full instructions on how to participate and download free activity sheets and double line stationery that children can use to write their letters.

All elementary school children are eligible — including homeschoolers.

Be sure to bookmark this site and check back to see letter excerpts and progress reports as letters come in from students across the country.

Time is running out — so join the fun today (and no later than December 15th) to help make history with “Mail to the Chief!”

(A big THANK YOU to ClickScholar Nancy Hogan for recommending this website!)
