List member Melissa in Tennessee wrote, “I found this site while looking for
some online resources for my struggling reader.”

What Melissa discovered is a website where you can watch members of the
Screen Actors Guild – yes, well-known actors and actresses (and even Al
Gore!) — read stories and books aloud. Their skills at bringing the words
on the pages to life engage audiences of all ages.

When you get to the site you will see a welcome message and a menu of book
titles on the left. Put your cursor over the book and you can see who reads
it. Turn on your speakers, and click on a book to begin. A new page opens –
simply click “Let’s Read It” and you will be treated to a video of the actor
reading the book, complete with illustrations, captions (so you can follow
along), and a musical score to enhance the experience.

Once you are through watching and listening to the story or book, check out
the “Related Activities” to find suggestions to further learning. You can
also download and print out the “Activity Guide” that includes a book
summary, related activities, information about the author, trivia facts
related to the book, and information about the Screen Actors Guild member
who read the story.

I was completely captivated by the stories I sampled. This is a high-quality
endeavor that blends literature and technology in a delightful way for
readers and listeners of all ages.
