Homefires: Homeschool Jukebox
It’s about time! Rallying songs for homeschoolers! I am really delighted to be able to share today’s website recommendation with you. This is a slight deviation from the usual fare offered through ClickSchooling — but I ask for your indulgence as it’s part of a personal project that was years in the making — and now, finally, through the miracle of MP3 files — I can share it with you!
Several years ago it occurred to me that homeschoolers needed rallying songs. So, I penned some lyrics to a familiar tune which became, “The Homeschool Anthem,” and then was inspired to write the music and words to a “Homeschool Jingle.” I told our local homeschool choir director about the songs, and she was delighted to teach the choir the “Homeschool Anthem.” Then, a few parents decided to get in on the act and learned “The Homeschool Jingle.”
The kids and parents liked it so much, that we knew we wanted to share the songs with as many other homeschoolers as possible. We decided to create a CD of song by, about, and for homeschoolers called “Homeschool Jukebox.” (More about that in a minute…)
Because we recorded the songs and created a CD, and because MP3 technology came along, we are now able to share these time-enduring homeschool “fight songs” that support who and what we are! When you get to today’s website, you will see an introduction. Scroll toward the bottom to click on the MP3 files to download the FREE versions of “Homeschool Anthem” and “Homeschool Jingle.” Give them a listen! In so doing, you will have the eternal gratitude and appreciation of our not-quite-ready-for-prime-time homeschool musicians and vocalists. Admittedly, the songs are occasionally out of tune or off beat — but we assure you that our enthusiasm for homeschooling (as evidenced in the lyrics to our songs) is praiseworthy and contagious! We have also included the printable words to the two songs. It is my sincere hope that you will learn the tunes and use them as rallying songs at home, in the car, at park days, and at homeschool conventions!
Please, if you like the songs — by all means share them with your friends by forwarding this message. Thanks!
A word about the Homeschool Jukebox CD…. The CD is a collection of inventive and original songs (along with a few cover songs) actually performed by homeschool kids and their parents. It is a demonstration of what children, teens and adults can do when their creative spirit, skill, and love for learning are given the support and freedom to achieve any possibility. Each and every one of the songs on the CD is a representation of what the homeschooling experience is all about. In addition to the “Homeschool Anthem” and the” Homeschool Jingle” whose FREE downloads are available for you at today’s website, the “Homeschool Jukebox CD” contains homeschool tribute songs, folk tunes, and even a few rock songs performed by the young homeschool musicians and vocalists who jammed at The Riekes Center in Menlo Park, California. There are 10 tunes in all. The CD was originally intended just for local distribution, so we did not press many copies. Information on how to get one of the few copies remaining is available at the website too. Don’t forget that you can download the MP3s for the homeschool rallying songs absolutely free at today’s website. Enjoy!
