In honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King national holiday, here is a commemorative website:

Recommended Website:
BlackVoices.com

This website serves as an introduction to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It features a biography of Dr. King through a Q&A format, along with articles that include his most well-known speech, “I Have A Dream.” You will also find a virtual tour of Dr. King’s birthplace that includes photographs and text. From this site, you can click on a link to the National Civil Rights Museum where you can take a virtual tour of the museum that includes information on Dr. King’s assassination.

This website offers a great deal of information on Black History. When you are through exploring the pages on Dr. King, click on the “Black Voices” icon to go to the home page. You will see an introduction and menu — if you scroll down to the bottom of the home page, you will find “This Day In Black History” that features information on historical events in African-American history that have taken place each day of the year. Today’s feature is as follows:

“1988: Debi Thomas, figure skater, becomes the first African American to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.”

If you bookmark the website you can return and read the daily entries.

Parents: As this website was created with an adult audience in mind and is frequently updated, AS ALWAYS, you will want to preview this site to determine suitability for your children.
