At this website you can see live feed from a camera trained on the Elephant Seals at Ano Nuevo State Reserve. When you get to the site you are presented with two Live Cam choices — one for Stellar Sea Lions in the Gulf of Alaska (which wasn’t working when I visited the site), and the other for Elephant Seals at Ano Nuevo State Reserve. Simply click on “RealPlayer SureStream” under the photo of the elephant seal and within seconds you can watch the seal action on the beach and hear the seals barking! (If you don’t have RealPlayer you can download it for free at this site.)

After watching the live cam, your kids may want to know more about elephant seals. You can visit the California State Park website and learn all about the Ano Nuevo State Reserve and its wildlife inhabitants at this website. If this link works correctly it may include a pop-up window that says “See the Video” — that takes you back to the live cam (so you have two ways to access it). If the pop-up doesn’t appear — just use the link to “See More Wildlife” given above.

Whether or not you see that pop-up window, you can find all sorts of interesting information on the history, geology, and marine life of Ano Nuevo. Look at the “Related Links” on the menu on the left side of the screen to learn about: Birds, Elephant Seals, Land Animals and even find out how to schedule a tour if you are in the area.
