Spartacus International — Teaching History Online
I am indebted to list member, Anna L., for recommending this site. I haven’t seen a comprehensive history site as simple to use as this one — ever. When you get to the site you will see a menu of topics about world history including:
- WWI
- WWII
- Medieval World
- American Civil War
- Civil Rights Movement
- Child Labor
- Emancipation of Women
- McCarthyism
- Vietnam War
- Political Cartoons
- and the history of Russia, USA, Germany and more!
Click on any topic and discover interesting text about the era — peppered with links to more information — and terrific photos and pictures.
But wait! That’s just the beginning. You will also see “Online History Lessons” on the main menu (scroll down a bit). Click on it and a new page opens called “Teachers Virtual School.” This literally provides student-friendly lessons on every aspect of history from Ancient Egypt and The Vikings to Modern World History. You can study specific genres — even the History of Medicine! There are History Timelines, and information for teachers (parent-educators) on how to teach history online along with history quizzes and worksheets. (Note: While most of the site is well-maintained, I did notice that a couple of links were dead. If you find them, contact the webmaster and hopefully they can restore them or point you in a new direction.)
Overall, this site is almost too good to be true. It’s an incredible history resource! Bookmark it, you’ll want to re-visit often.
