Earthbound Farm Bug Walks

Earthbound Farm in Carmel Valley, California grows organic produce. They use “good” bugs to help keep “bad” crop-eating bugs under control. At this website you can take a virtual bug walk and learn all about the types of bugs that are good for gardens. Through interesting text, colorful illustrations, and photographs, the farm entomologist explains: the way bugs are used in organic farming, how they create a habitat that attracts these bugs, how the population is controlled, and the differences between prey and predator bugs. This is really fascinating — and your kids will recognize many of the bugs which are quite common.

If you live in California or plan to visit, you can go to Earthbound farms and take a real bug walk or a tour of their farm!
