Fun Science Gallery
I must thank ClickSchooling list member Meredith Harger for recommending this website. Designed for amateur scientists this sight is a compendium of science activities that contain complete lesson plans. If you need a science curriculum for the upcoming school year – this site may have all that you need. The projects are interesting and fun and while seemingly designed for use by older students, younger kids can easily enjoy the projects with parental guidance. They are certainly a whole lot more fun and challenging than most of what you will find in a typical science textbook.
Among the many offerings at this site are lessons using telescopes, stereoscopes, and microscopes. There is an excellent lesson plan on observing blood cells through microscopes. There is a lesson in how to build a Herbarium. Don’t miss the many offerings under the category Folk Toys – you can make a slingshot, a cable car, and even the old ‘telephone” toy. Try your hand with experiments in electrochemistry by building a lemon or tomato battery. There is a great feature on pond critters, as well as many experiments involving nature and the environment. Meredith’s favorite lesson was the plan for building a $1 microscope. It is simple to build and produces a magnification of 75 times! All of the lessons come with complete instructions, pictures to illustrate the project, and clear scientific explanations. You’ll want to bookmark this site!
