This site offers a wide variety of free, engaging activities and quizzes to help kids learn and practice a variety of biology strands. And it’s not just biology for kids, it’s for everyone.

When you get to the website you will see the menu:

  • Vertebrates

Click on any title and a new page opens that contains an introduction to that biology strand and, on most pages, a recommended activity and/or quiz. There is a lot to learn. Scroll down to the bottom and go to the site map to view the overwhelming amount of information available on Biology4kids.

This is one of the most innovative math sites we’ve seen. A Canadian mathematician/teacher developed this site to help classroom teachers address the multiple math skill levels of students through challenging and engaging activities and games that are demonstrated with slide shows or videos.

All of it can be tweaked for use in the homeschool environment. When you get to the site, click on “All Puzzles” then choose the grade level of interest to you. You can also switch to the subject menu.

  • In grades K-2 – Enjoy math games that teach patterns, skip counting, addition, symmetry, and more.
  • In grades 3-4 – Play dot-to-dot measuring puzzles, learn subtraction, Fibonacci numbers, and more.
  • In grades 5-6 – Practice division, discover prime numbers, practice factoring, and more.
  • In grades 7-9 – Enjoy a game of “Integral Fission,” practice multiplying fractions, engage in cipher breaking, do puzzles to learn about polygons, area, logic, and more.

Learn the basics of playing the piano with the over 50 free lessons at this website.

After reading the home page overview information, select the “Start Lessons Now” button to begin with lesson 1. Please note that you will need to have Flash installed to view the animated lessons and be sure to have your volume on. Lessons include instructional text and animations as well as videos and other online tools. Practice what you are learning on the Zebra Keys Virtual keyboard using either your mouse or computer keyboard then test your knowledge on an interactive keyboard trainer. 

Lessons are broken into beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and each are divided into five mini sections: 

  • Learn Songs
  • Chords
  • Music Theory
  • Improvisation
  • Technique

It is suggested that if the student is new to the world of playing the piano that they should start with the “Preparation” section to learn basic playing concepts.

When you get to the site you can search games by grade level or subject using the left side bar menu. Or use the top menu to go directly to: 

  • Math Games – There are racing games, logic games, puzzle games covering a wide variety of concepts and skills from basic addition to solving complex equations.
  • Math Videos – Some of the videos feature actual math teachers providing step-by-step examples to help children solve problems. Other math videos incorporate songs, animation or favorite characters to help bring important concepts to life.
  • Math Worksheets – Gives children more practice to build their skills. Some include standard equations, others use word problems and real life scenarios.
  • Mobile Games – All games can be played on tablets, mobile phones and other mobile devices. Games focus on solving equations, following patterns, manipulating shapes, as well as building logic and critical thinking skills.
