Using the left-hand menu, select your destination:

  • Coast
  • Mountains
  • Desert
  • Central Valley

Each regional tour provides a video or pictorial overview, maps, and a summary paragraph with links for further exploration. Please note that many of the links open to off-site pages so always preview before allowing students to visit.

Also included on the left-hand sidebar are questions for the student to answer about the region with links to where information can be found as well as a link at the bottom for the answers.

This site was intended for upper elementary students but younger and older kids will enjoy it as well.

At this website you can take a video tour of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, an Oregon-based company that, as the website explains, uses “old-world technology to mill hundreds of all-natural whole grain products.”

Read through the introduction, then select the “Video Tour” link to be taken to the YouTube video tour.

Meet the owners Bob and Charlie Moore. Learn how farmers supply the organic grain and how the grain is transported, cleaned, and milled into flour, meals, and cereals. Discover the centuries old stone-milling techniques Bob’s uses to create stone-ground products that are tested for quality assurance in every phase of production. You’ll see the packaging lines, distribution warehouse, and see how retailers can best display the products in their stores. At the end of the presentation, the Moore’s extend an invitation to the viewer to visit the mill in Oregon – where you can take a real-time tour.

When you’re through watching the video, back on the website, use the menu to learn more about the history of the company, and their organic and gluten-free products. You’ll also find recipes that use whole grain and gluten-free products as well.
