Tour the Oriental Institute Museum at the University of Chicago with this website.

This museum features artifacts from ancient Near East including galleries devoted to ancient Egypt, Nubia, Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Anatolia, and Megiddo.

After reading through the introduction, click the “Take the Tour” button on the bottom of the page. Your tour will start at the lobby and museum shop. Read through the information in the pop-up window which provides navigational instructions as well as hot spot information. Use your mouse to explore the 360° images of the galleries. Select your desired destination by clicking on the thumbnail images at the bottom of the screen. Galleries to visit include: 

  • Mesopotamian Gallery
  • Khorsabad Court
  • Assyrian Empire Gallery
  • Syro-Anatolian Gallery
  • Megiddo Gallery
  • Egyptian Galleries
  • Persian Gallery
  • Nubia Gallery

Throughout the galleries there will be photo hot spots to get a closer look at an item. Be sure that you have your permissions turned on to be able to view these items.

When you have finished with your virtual tour, head back to the home page and select the “Collections” link in the upper menu then choose the “Search our Collections” option on the left-hand sidebar. To search for only items with multimedia including images, go to the second drop-down menu and select Multimedia, then select the “Yes” radio button. Use the “Browse Museum Galleries” options to further refine your search.
