Explore lessons and artifacts for World War I through present day conflicts involving Britain, its former Empire and the Commonwealth with this website from the five museums and historical sites that make up the IWM (Imperial War Museums).

When arriving at today’s link, scroll down the page to find teaching resources regarding a specific topic. Along with each study unit title, there is a suggested Key Stage level (grade level), as well as an indication as to which war the resource covers. Most lessons present information in a question and answer format along with either images or videos. Some also include downloadable Powerpoint presentations as well as some additional resource PDF downloads.

But this page is only a small part of the learning adventure. Select the “Menu” link at the top of the page, then choose from either one of the following to continue learning:

  • Stories – Learn about the photographs, artwork and histories of the World Wars, Cold War, D-Day, the Holocaust, Contemporary Conflict, Cabinet War Rooms, Battle of Britain, Afghanistan, Gallipoli, Fashion, and the Home Front.
  • Our Collections – Dive into the almost 800,000 items in the museums to discover Art and Design, Books and Publications, Documents, Exhibits, Film, Photographs, Sound Archive, War Memorial Register, Lives of the First World War, American Air Museum at IWM Duxford and much more.

If you happened to live in the UK, be sure to check out the “Schools” and “What’s On” links for more information about the educational opportunities available with a visit to one of the museums.

Be sure to bookmark this site as it is a valuable resource for your history studies.
