Age Range: 5-10 (Grades K-4, with parental supervision)

Kids can join New Jersey History Kids, Corey and Gabriela, and discover the history, geography, and government of New Jersey with this interactive website from the New Jersey Historical Commission.

When arriving at today’s link, students can select the “Enter” option to begin exploring, or teachers may wish to choose the “For the Teacher” tab at the top of the page to learn about the website and how to use it in their classrooms.

Once students have entered the interactive website, they are greeted by the animated “guides” and click-through instructions for navigating the site. Select a numbered location on the map to open a unit. There are eleven units from which to choose:

  • The Lenape
  • Farming
  • Industry
  • Invention
  • The Underground Railroad
  • The American Revolution
  • Immigrants
  • The State House
  • Barnegat Bay
  • Delaware Bay
  • The Pinelands

Each unit is associated with a historical place and one or more field of study. In addition to information related to the subject, units include videos, questions for the student to answer and some also include interactive online activities.

On the “For the Teacher” page there are downloadable teacher guides as well as other printable worksheets and activities for the student.

This website will be a fun addition to your state studies.
