Not only do you get to take a virtual field trip to a Christmas Tree Farm today – but you can explore an extensive website all about Christmas Trees complete with themed lesson plans!

We’ve featured this site in previous years – but it’s worth an annual virtual trip to see. At this website you can take a virtual field trip to a Christmas Tree Farm in Ontario, Canada. When you get to the site, scroll down to locate the tour links and click to learn all about the growing and harvesting process through photographs and text. Then, read all about the history of Christmas trees. Locate the “Education” link in the upper menu to find “Activities for Kids” to print out some Christmas tree themed games and puzzles including dot-to-dot, word searches, crossword puzzles, and counting tree rings! Select the “Teacher’s Guide” link to find teaching plans. But wait! Keep reading.

Christmas Trees and More!

This website from the University of Illinois Extension Program has extensive information on Christmas trees presented through a printable series of lesson plans for grades K-7. Learn the plant parts of a Christmas tree, its development from seed to harvest, watch video clips of the life of a Christmas tree, learn about out nation’s official Christmas tree, and follow links to more information on tree farms and where to find them, Tree Events, and more. By the way, some of the lessons provided here suggest a year-round curriculum on trees – so you can print it out and use it all year long.
