See how used plastic bottles are recycled into new bottles with this virtual tour from the French company, Plastipak.

Use the left sidebar explore the facility and see:

  • Storage area – where bales of the old bottles are stored
  • Unpacking Zone – the first step in the recycling process
  • Wash Zone – After bottles are sorted and crushed they are washed.
  • Extrusion Zone – where the recycled pellets are converted to granules
  • Polycondensation – the purification step to prep the granules to make new bottles
  • Injection Zone – This is where the new bottles are made.
  • Silos – purified granules are stored in the silos for later transport by tankers to other food manufactures to use to create their bottles and other containers

To navigate a location simply scroll your mouse up or down or use your up and down arrow keys. Throughout the tour there are occasional information blocks to open by selecting the plus sign.

Bonus: If you have a student learning French, click the flag in the upper right of the tour to view the information in French and your student can practice their language skills.
