Looking for a starting place for your California state studies? This website provides a wealth of basic information about the state’s history.

On the home page, use the list of topics to search for information. Topics include: 

  • Indians
  • Explorers
  • Missions
  • Mission Life
  • Ranchos
  • Governors
  • History by the Decades

After the selected topic page opens, further refine your research by selecting the appropriate sub-topic. Most pages not only include a list of basic facts about the subject, but also include paragraphs with more in-depth information as well as an image. Because the information is presented in concise, bite-size pieces, students’ interest may be piqued to dig deeper on their own. In addition, each page is also printable for use offline using the “Print” link in the upper menu.

This site is simple to navigate and the text is written at the 4th-6th grade reading level making it an excellent resource for your elementary and middle school students to discover facts about California.
