Age Range: 11-18 (Grades 6-12, with parental supervision)

This website is exactly as its name describes. It is a primer of Czech words.

Created by a librarian living in Ohio who composed a series of hand-made books while visiting Prague to help him learn the language, students can learn over 300 words. Visitors can jump right in by clicking on the main image and proceed through the vocabulary available. Each word is presented in Czech with a black and white image illustrating the word. Click the “listen” text link to hear the word spoken by a native. There is also a notation as to what part of speech the word belongs. Simply click the arrow to move onto the next word. There is also a link the “index” that when selected provides a list of all the words. On this page, you can select to see the words in English. Then when you click the English word, it opens the primer page of the Czech word. On the lists, there are icons representing nouns, adjectives, and verbs beside each word to help identify its part of speech. When learning a verb, there is a link on the page to “conjugate” the verb to see its conjugation.

The simplicity of this website’s design and navigation makes it a nice tool if you are interested in learning the language of the Czech Republic.
