Visit the plantation home of James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, with this virtual tour powered by Google Maps.

When arriving at the link, read the summary to the right of the main image, then click on the “arrows” in the image to begin navigating in and around the home. We found it best to view in full screen by selecting the icon in the upper right corner. Click your “Esc” key on your keyboard to return to the page. Click and drag around the image and use the other tools in the lower right to navigate around the house. As you go through the house you will see:

  • James Monroe’s study
  • Children’s Room
  • Bedroom
  • Dining Room
  • Drawing Room
  • Kitchen

To learn about the rooms, go to the ” areas of the house” text link on the summary page in the third paragraph.

When you are finished with your tour, learn more about James Monroe by selecting the “James Monroe” link in the upper menu. On this page visitors can:

  • Read a brief biography about the man.
  • View a timeline of his life.
  • Learn the story of Highland and slavery.
  • See the featured web exhibit “The Election of 1816”.

Add this website to your Presidential study tool kit.
