It’s Saturday, January 14, 2017, and time for Foreign Languages at ClickSchooling!

Recommended Website:

The Numbers List

Age Range: 13-18 (Grades 8-12. NOTE: This site was not designed with children in mind; however, some kids may enjoy learning to count to ten in another language with parental assistance.)

At this website you can learn to count from 1 to 10 in five thousand languages – as long as you can read and figure out word pronunciations from text. (There are no audio clips here.) Even for those who might have difficulty, just seeing the amazing number of languages spoken on this planet is a social studies and foreign language eye-opener!

When you get to the site, select a language family from the drop down menu. You can further refine the languages shown by million-speaker languages only, living languages only, and/or dead languages only and even see only numbers 1-5 to simplify the chart. Once you hit the “List” button, a table is created with the numbers from 1 to 10 written in the many languages included in the family. Click the links above the tool to learn about the language families for the numbers list and writing systems. Also select the “Sources” link to understand the symbols in the chart.
