Age Range: All (All grades; children with parental supervision)

Formerly FreePianoLessons4Kids.com, Hoffman Academy offers hundreds of free video lessons for the beginner pianist that teach ear training, sight reading, theory, technique, and much more. Created by Joseph Hoffman as a way to make piano lessons available to all, students work through the lessons at their own pace and are able to review any or all lessons as needed to master the material. And an extra bonus is that lessons can be done on your schedule with no need to leave your home. The fun, easy-going, and often entertaining nature of Mr. Hoffman as he presents the material will keep your student engaged and looking forward to the next lesson.

When arriving at the website, visitors may wish to watch the introduction video that helps explain the program. Then select the “Start Learning” button in the middle of the top image. From the very first lesson, your student will play a basic song, “Hot Cross Buns”, all the while building music and piano playing skills. There are currently seven units with 20 plus lessons in each. Students will learn:

  • Reading music
  • Notes
  • Rhythm
  • Scales
  • Chords
  • Piano Posture
  • Fingering of the keys
  • And so much more

There are also bonus lessons for popular tunes such as:

  • “Let it Go” from Frozen
  • “Star Wars Theme” and “The Imperial March” from Star Wars
  • “In the Hall of the Mountain King” from the 1876 play Peer Gynt
  • “S’vivon” a traditional Hanukkah song
  • “Jingle Bells”

Be sure to visit the support page as well for helpful information about Getting Started, Practice Helps, and Other Topics.

This well-organized website is a wonderful place to start your student on the road to learning piano. You will want to bookmark this site as new lessons/units are being created regularly.

Please note that while the video lessons are always free, supplemental materials are available for purchase.
