Age Range: 14-Adult (Grades 9-Adult, children with parental supervision)

Part of the larger Annenberg Learner website, this portion of the website is a collection of 26 inquiry-based thematic units using videos, text, and interactive activities to help students discover world history. While the units can be used individually to supplement history studies, when used in their entirety and sequentially, they provide a complete chronological world history course.

Each of the lesson units include:

  • Videos produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting are usually divided into three segments, each focusing on a specific topic relating to the unit.
  • The Course Guide PDF not only provides instruction for using the unit but also can serve as the student workbook.
  • Online Text PDFs contain the reading material for the unit.
  • Learning Activities PDFs contain ideas for activities to be used by groups or individuals at various skill levels.

When arriving at the unit home page, use the left hand navigation bar to access the various components of the unit. In addition to the main study components, you will find:

  • References & Sources
  • Unit Audio Glossary
  • Related Units
  • Video Transcript

In the navigation bar beside the Bridging World History logo, be sure to check out the World History Traveler feature, an interactive that builds upon the lessons with the use of maps, images, documents, and texts. This tool can be used to focus in on particular events, places, or people or zooming out to see the larger picture of time and place.

Whether you are in need of supplemental material for your world history studies or looking for a full course, this website is definitely worth consideration.
