Virtual Math Club

Age Range: 11-15 (Grades 5-10, with parental supervision)

This blog offers a Virtual Math Club that provides a new, free math problem set each week along with video solutions and lessons on key math topics.
The site was developed and is maintained by Jolene Gleason who has a M.S. degree in electrical engineering. She worked as an electrical engineer for 15 years before becoming a full-time homeschool parent to her highly gifted son. She currently teaches middle-school Competitive Math Training.
Challenge your mathematical problem solving skills with problems similar to those found on math contests such as the AMC 8, AMC 10, MATHCOUNTS, or the middle school Math Olympiads.
She posts a problem set each week, and then comes back later in the week to post the answers and video solutions. She will also post lessons on key topics that are not typically covered in the standard mathematics curriculum such as combinatorics, probability, and number theory.

Even if you are not interested in participating in math contests,
you will benefit from sharpening your problem-solving skills. You’ll probably even enjoy it. These problems are fun, more like puzzles. The process of solving a problem can be frustrating, but solving a hard problem is extremely satisfying and leaves you craving more. And the more problems solved the better problem solver you’ll become. Develop the persistence, patience, and perseverance it takes to be a good problem solver.

When you get to the site, you’ll see the current week’s problem set. Use the menu at the top of the page and click on “Problems” to access all of the problems and solutions that have been posted so far.

This is an on-going terrific resource for those who find joy in the process of mathematical problem-solving.
