Hi! It’s Thursday August 23, 2012 and time for History at ClickSchooling!

Recommended Website:

TeachingHistory.org

Age Range: 5-18 (Grades K-12, with parental supervision. FYI, most of the quizzes are geared for Grades 4-12.)

The U.S. Department of Education funds this website to help raise student achievement in grades K–12, by improving teachers’ access to free resources and materials about U.S. history including an assortment of interactive history quizzes.

When you get to the site you’ll see a menu of over 100 history quizzes that cover a range of topics including:

  • Columbus & European Explorers
  • The War of 1812
  • Westward Expansion
  • U.S. Presidents
  • American Women Scientists
  • Migration
  • Railroads
  • Victory Gardens
  • The Great Depression
  • The Constitution
  • Shipwrecks & Disasters at Sea
  • Epidemics in America
  • American Myths: Popular Music

The quizzes are a great way to spark interest in a historical topic.

When you’re through exploring the quizzes, head to the links and menus on the home page to explore the vast array of content. One of the easiest and fastest ways to access lessons and activities is to click on the following links for:

Elementary School Teachers (Grades K5)

Middle School Teachers (Grades 6-8)

High School Teachers  (Grades 9-12)

In all three cases, a new page opens displaying classroom resources. Click on them to find book lists, lessons, activities and more. You’ll even find ideas for incorporating literature and technology in the classroom. (One idea has high school students creating Facebook pages for historical figures!)

There is really so much here, you’ll have to bookmark the site, and return frequently to see it all.
