Illuminations: Resources for Teaching Math
Age Range: 4-18 (Grades PreK-12)
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (in association with ThinkFinity.org that was featured in ClickSchooling in August of 2009) offers this website with Standards-based resources to support educators in ensuring free, high quality mathematics lessons and activities for all students in PreK-12.
When you get to this multi-media site, you’ll see some highlighted activities. For example, the new “Dynamic Paper” application that allows you “to create images of nets for 3-D shapes, tessellations of polygons, number grids with any number of rows, columns, and integers, spinners with various numbers of sectors, and more!”
Click on any featured activity to begin, or take a moment to explore the menu that includes:
*Activities – Over 100 online activities divided by grade level for PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. You’ll find everything from simple sorting, match, and counting games to algebra, geometry and trigonometry investigations.
*Lessons – Find 550 lesson plans for all grade levels that satisfy standards for numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability. Each lesson comes with complete step-by-step instructions, downloadable/printable materials, and links to further resources. While the lessons are designed for classroom use, they can be tweaked for the homeschool environment.
*Web Links – JACK POT! You say you want ONE source for links to free math activities on the Net? This is it! You’ll find 724 links (many to sites previously featured in ClickSchooling) that have been approved for student use by the NCTM editorial board.
The formatting and design of this site makes all of the content very user-friendly.
