This website offers online, self-study lessons and resources for American Sign Language students at no cost — and you don’t even have to register!

ASL University started as an online American Sign Language class taught by Dr. Bill Vicars, an Assistant Professor of ASL and Deaf Studies at California State University in Sacramento. He has taken his passion for this topic and transferred it all to this continuously updated website. When you get to the site you will see an introduction. There is a menu midway through it that includes:

  • STUDENTS — Click on this item to study and review signs, practice fingerspelling, and get over 40 free lessons with downloadable/printable practice cards and workbooks.

There is information for Teachers, Parents, and Surfers too.

Below the menu, the introduction continues with suggestions and a link to “The First 100 Signs” — click on it to see them clearly demonstrated through illustrations and photographs.
