Ambleside Primary School offers this amazing website that houses lots of unusual interactive tools and games for learning math (and other subjects). I decided to focus on just the math section for today’s ClickSchooling feature, but I have a feeling you’ll want to bookmark the site and return to investigate all of the offerings here. Many of the games have been designed by the students at Ambleside — which explains why some of these activities are out of the ordinary realm of what’s available on the web.

When you get to the site today, you will see a menu on the left that allows you to explore all of the offerings in every subject. In the center of the page you’ll see a brief introduction to the math page, followed by a menu of the math games and activities available. They are divided into sections as follows:

  • Programs Made By Pupils — Students created these games and activities that allow you to take math multiple choice quizzes, practice fractions with “Fractotron,” practice your times tables, solve addition problems that appear in a pyramid to open a mummy’s tomb, and play a game that will challenge your mental math skills.
  • Tools for Teaching — A selection of tools and activities that help teach math concepts. They have an angle generator that allows kids to investigate making angles and measuring them with a protractor. You’ll also find interactive 100 squares and times tables, numberlines, pattern grids, number estimation activities, graphs and bar charts, an analogue clock for teaching time, puzzles, and tools for learning addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Other Useful Tools for Teaching — Try the interactive geometry section, fraction machine, a shape database for learning 2D and 3D shapes, a prime number checker, figure out your weight on other planets, convert Fahrenheit temperatures to Celsius and back again, or play Yahtzee online!

This website is a terrific resource that you can use to enhance any math curriculum. Have fun! (And don’t forget to check the menu for games and activities that promote learning in other subject areas as well.)
