Tuesday — Science

Hi! It’s Tuesday and time for Science at ClickSchooling.

We’ve located a website that could provide your science curriculum for a long time to come — as it is all about inventors! The Alliance for American Innovation has created this site that has information about:

Colonial Inventors;

Communications Technology Inventors;

Consumer Goods Inventors;

Medical Technology Inventors;

Space Travel Inventors;

Transportation Inventors;

and even info about inventors who improve the environment and those who make weapons.

There is a separate section devoted to Women Inventors too.

At this site, you will find the monthly ‘Featured Inventor”. This month it is Hedy Lamarr. That’s right — seems that Hedy was more than a beautiful Hollywood star. She helped design a radio-controlled torpedo that was used to develop satellite technology. The featured quote by Hedy, “Any woman can look glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid.” Hedy had an attitude!

To give you an idea of what else can be found — under Colonial Inventors you can review brief biographies and the inventions of Benjamin Banneker, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Mary Kies (she invented a device to weave straw and silk together), Eli Whitney, etc.

Under Space Travel Inventors there is a timeline of space history with brief biographies of various inventors, an exploration of the cosmos with Stephen Hawkings, and links to various space and Nasa sites.

You get the idea. An exploration of this site revealed that most of the links are current, although a few that led to new addresses or were under construction. There is something for every age range and ability level at this site located at:

Have fun!
